DESCRIPTION:At Well Bread we use sourdough starter that is more than 125 years old. In this class you’ll learn about creating your own Sourdough starter; how to care for it and how to use it in more than just bread. Proper sourdough bread can’t happen in a two-hour class\, but Chef Cat will guide you how to make your own dough (you’ll take that home to bake later) and how to get those big holes in your own sourdough bread. This is a basic class and will give you a great head start to caring for a sourdough starter. \nSourdough breads are a labour of love and take a lot of practice to master – it’s a living organism and can be as unpredictable as a human toddler. If you’re looking for a fool-proof bread baking class….this is NOT it. You’ll take home your own dried portion of Yukon Pioneer Ione Christensen’s 125-year-old sourdough starter and some bread dough you’ll make in class to ferment at home and bake in the days following the class. \nWe’ll make sourdough pancakes and enjoy some other sourdough treats made by Chef Cat before the class. You’ll receive all the recipes and some confidence to care for your newest “family member”.

DESCRIPTION:Come learn about Haitian food and culture while helping support a great cause. Morgan Wienberg\, co-founder of Haitian Child Protection organization\, Little Footprints Big Steps\, along with visiting Haitian staff\, will be hosting an evening of Haitian- inspired cuisine and drinks prepared in collaboration with local Chefs Miche Genest and Cat McInroy\, and Mixologist Jennifer Tyldesley. Guests will prepare a Haitian-themed appetizer and cocktail\, and will enjoy a multi-course Haitian meal with drinks included. \nThe event will help raise awareness about the upcoming documentary\, Not About Me\, which explores many important international development issues through the lens of Morgan’s personal stories and experiences in Haiti. \nThis event is a fundraiser for LFBS. $50 tax receipts will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:Giving up wheat and other grains that contain gluten doesn’t mean you have to give up on flavour and texture. In this class Chef Cat will show you how to swap out the wheat so you can still enjoy “breaded” foods\, yeasty breads and tender cakes. We will learn to make a versatile gf flour blend and explore how to choose alternative starches for wheat. We will use nut flour in one of the dishes in this class. Well Bread is not a gluten free facility and we take reasonable precautions to avoid cross contamination.
