DESCRIPTION:At Well Bread we use sourdough starter that is more than 125 years old. In this class you’ll learn about creating your own Sourdough starter; how to care for it and how to use it in more than just bread. Proper sourdough bread can’t happen in a two-hour class\, but Chef Cat will guide you how to make your own dough (you’ll take that home to bake later) and how to get those big holes in your own sourdough bread. This is a basic class and will give you a great head start to caring for a sourdough starter. \nSourdough breads are a labour of love and take a lot of practice to master – it’s a living organism and can be as unpredictable as a human toddler. If you’re looking for a fool-proof bread baking class….this is NOT it. You’ll take home your own dried portion of Yukon Pioneer Ione Christensen’s 125-year-old sourdough starter and some bread dough you’ll make in class to ferment at home and bake in the days following the class. \nWe’ll make sourdough pancakes and enjoy some other sourdough treats made by Chef Cat before the class. You’ll receive all the recipes and some confidence to care for your newest “family member”.

Guests will prepare a Haitian-themed appetizer and cocktail\, and will enjoy a multi-course Haitian meal with drinks included. \nThe event will help raise awareness about the upcoming documentary\, Not About Me\, which explores many important international development issues through the lens of Morgan’s personal stories and experiences in Haiti. \nThis event is a fundraiser for LFBS. $50 tax receipts will be provided.

DESCRIPTION:In this class\, Chef Cat will guide you step-by-step to create a multi-layered cake. You’ll take home your fully decorated cake to showoff and enjoy. All skill level of home bakers will benefit from this class. Mature teens with baking experience are welcome to sign up knowing they will work independently with some guidance. Chef Cat is a trained Pastry Chef and eager to finally be able to host this class for you! \nVanilla cakes will be pre-made by Chef Cat for your convenience (you’ll get the recipe for that\, too). You will make Swiss Butter Cream from scratch and use it to ice your cake. You’ll take your cake home in a proper cake box\, all supplies included. This is a basic class where we focus on making smooth straight cakes with flat tops. You’ll learn basic piping techniques for decorating and some tricks the professionals do to hide the bits that aren’t perfect.
